The 6th edition of the Young Leaders Connect is back and scheduled on 27th October 2018 at North Eastern Council (NEC) Nongrim Hills, Shillong, Megahalaya.
Young Leaders Connect is a landmark initiative that provides a common platform for young leaders
and achievers from the North-East, launched in 2011 in Kohima. Young Leaders Connect is an annual
conclave where young change makers and leaders from diverse fields like business, politics, academia,
sports, music and culture come together, put their heads and hearts together to plan where they
would like to see India vis-Ă -vis North East in the future, plan a roadmap, and strategize on interventions at the grassroots and policy level.
The objective of the YLC is to come up with key actionable steps required to inform and sensitize the
population from the rest of India regarding the North-East, and create a positive outlook about the
region that looks beyond media reports of conflict to the untapped potential that the region holds in terms of cultural heritage, natural resources, and human capital. The conclave not only brings together young leaders from the North-East and rest of the country, but also engages policy makers, strategists, entrepreneurs, professionals, members of academia, and students to join the development discourse.
Some speakers from the earlier YLC editions have been the likes of Baijayant Jay Panda (MP,
Lok Sabha), Rajeev Chandrasekhar (MP, Rajya Sabha), National Security Advisor Ajit Dowal, Film
Maker Prakash Jha , Industrialist Bhairavi Jani , and several other noted personalities from the NE like
Mary Kom and National Film Awardee Geetanjali Thapa, Parliamentarians Sushmita Dev and Gaurav
Gogoi etc. CNN News (formerly CNN-IBN) has been our media partner.
The theme for the 6th edition of YLC is âMade in North-Eastâ ; Riding on the Honâble Prime Minister
Narendra Modiâs âMade in Indiaâ campaign the conclave will focus on entrepreneurship in the
North-East region. Though Indiaâs North East Region has been acknowledged as the Eastern Gateway
for the Governmentâs Act East Policy, the reality is that the region still lacks entrepreneurism and
continues to have a weak ecosystem for businesses to flourish. A thriving entrepreneurship has the
power to revolutionize the economy dramatically by transforming the job seekers into job creators.
With the employment requirement ever-increasing, entrepreneurship is the only way forward to
sustain economic growth, and provide jobs to our ever increasing youth population. The conclave will
have panel discussions and round table discussions with experts and stakeholders that will go beyond
dialogue, and towards deliverable goals applicable in a national and regional setting. On the side lines
of the panel discussions, there will be interface between entrepreneurs, industry, NGOs, government
agencies, social enterprises and advisory organizations to share and learn. The conclave will showcase
products and services, initiate new partnerships and find new resources.
We are happy to inform you that YLC-6 in Shillong is hosted by Honâble Chief Minister Conrad Sangma
and Chief Patron Union Minister of State (Home) Kiren Rijiju who are both core member of YLC .
